Six Cylinder Classics
October 1, 2008
By Scott Lewis
Since I wrote about gas mileage in the Car Corner column this month, why not show a bunch of six cylinder classics here.
1967 Pontiac Tempest Custom - $16,500
Description: 230 CID/165 HP overhead cam 6 cylinder engine, automatic transmission, power steering, Firestone Red Line tires, Rally II steel wheels, AM radio, tilt steering wheel, and a car alarm. This is an outstanding example of a low mileage, well cared for Tempest. The car was purchased from the original owner's family approximately 5 years ago. Since the purchase, necessary mechanical items have been replaced as needed (i.e. shocks, hoses, water pump, etc.) and a complete repaint in the original color. An inspection of this Tempest reveals a true "time capsule" appearance of all interior components to include rubber, glass, plastic chromed pieces, etc.

Comments: This is the second or third time this car has appeared in this column. Why hasn't someone ought it yet. Maybe I am the only one that likes it. And I like it a lot. The six cylinder is a bonus for me.
1963 Chevy II Nova - $8,995
Description: 30K Original Miles! Immaculate original condition throughout! 194 cid, automatic, AM radio, full wheel covers, immaculately clean & well preserved. Runs & drives great, lots of original paperwork, great fuel economy for 1963! A perfect affordable classic!

Comments: O.K. So we have a couple of extra doors, but hey this car is affordable and if the 30K miles is true I love that.
1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible - $16,950
Description: Under the hood sports a 4.1L overhead cam 6 cylinder engine coupled to automatic transmission and power steering. Other features include Ralleyee wheels, AM/FM Stereo, CD Player, newer tires, and newer paint.

Comments: This is a nice enough firebird to get me to forget about the 67 Camaro convertible I sold.
1968 Ford Mustang - $11,900
Description: This is a great driver for lots of fun times cruising. Exterior is teal blue with a matching blue interior. Paint is very good driver quality. Engine is a 6 cylinder with automatic transmission. Owner states the car is matching numbers. Has new dual exhaust and original hubcaps. This is a great looking driver that will show very nicely at local cruise ins.

Comments: This car is probably the most realistic. I
always liked the 67-68 Mustang. The six would be cool as a driver now,
and this car would be easy to drop in a V-8 later. I could really see
myself driving this one.
